English B & P Sounds

Transcript
Welcome to the first UGoEigo phonetics video podcast.
I will teach you how to say sounds in English.
Listen to me say the word and watch my mouth.
Then say the word with me.
Pretend that the video is a mirror.
Move your mouth the same way as mine.

This lesson we will do two sounds. They are a little bit alike.
First is the sound of the letter ‘B’.
Watch and say with me…
Second is the sound of the letter ‘P’.
Watch and say with me…
What is different?

To make the ‘P’ sound, you blow air out of your mouth.
To make the ‘B’ sound, you DON’T blow air out of your mouth.
Watch and say with me…
See the difference?

When you say ‘P’, blow out.
When you say ‘B’, don’t blow out.
Now let’s try some words. Watch and say these words with me…
  • “boy” - boy
  • “rabbit” - rabbit
  • “sub” - sub
  • “baby” - baby
  • “Bob” - Bob
  • “panda” - panda
  • “couple” - couple
  • “camp” - camp
  • “purple” - purple
  • “pump” - pump
  • “pub” - pub
  • “bump” - bump
Now listen.
Which word do you hear?
How did you do?

Now let’s practice.
Watch and say these
words with me…
  • “big” - big
  • “pig” - pig
  • “but” - but
  • “putt” - putt
  • “ban” - ban
  • “pan” - pan
  • “cab” - cab

  • “rapid” - rapid
